THE annual Darlington Point league tag knockout will go ahead as planned despite clashing with the finals of the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield on the same day.
The decision to move back the Paul Kelly competition by one week has created the clash on March 29 and will likely stretch the resources of clubs that enter both tournaments.
It has even forced Darlington Point-Coleambally to forfeit catering rights for the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield finals due to their prior commitment to their own tournament, which was booked well in advance.
Organisers of the league tag knockout said it was too late to change to another day due to "numerous logistical factors and the availability of the organisers" but still remain hopeful of a full turnout of teams.
Originally scheduled for March 16 and 22, the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield was delayed due to a CRL Academy camp that would have taken players, coaches and trainers away from several Group 20 sides.
The shield will now take place on March 23 and 29, meaning the finals at EW Moore Oval will go head-to-head with the league tag knockout at the Darlington Point Sportsground.
Entries for the league tag knockout, which offers a $500 prize for the winners, close on Friday, March 21.
