In town for the weekend before his whirlwind tour begins, Kevin Simpson was thrilled to share the news he will be supporting Nelly when the popular performer hits Australia in December.
Mr Simpson said the feeling when he found out was "completely unrealistic".
"I'm working on my album now and that's pretty much done," Mr Simpson said.
"It's heaps exciting but it's been heaps hard with all the travelling and doing shows."
The rapper got a lucky break when he was about 15, though he's held a love of music all his life.
His close relationship with manager Wes Patten has seen him score gigs other young hopefuls could only dream about.
"It's like, you keep wondering if it's real," Mr Simpson said.
"It's the sort of thing you wake up every morning and you still can't believe it's real."
Mr Patten said he got his cousin the gig through a production company he's involved with.
"We're all about promoting artists," Mr Patten said.
"I thought I'd give him the opportunity and put him in the show."
Mr Simpson will head to Sydney today to prepare for his upcoming show with TI on Friday.
Then he will head to New Zealand on December 10 with Nelly, followed by shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
