THE Griffith Sailing Club is holding an introductory weekend this Saturday and Sunday, open to anyone interested in sailing, paddling or rowing on the picturesque Lake Wyangan.
The club is already well into the new season but is throwing its doors open to potential new members keen on the various forms of non-motorised boating that take place every weekend.
Rowing is best suited to the smoother waters in the mornings and is held from 7am-9am, either in a four or single training boat.
Call Tim Ellis (0411 647 767) to reserve a place.
Sailing, in a variety of boats, will happen all weekend, if a suitable wind is available. Sailing can involve large boats needing a crew of five or just as a single person sailing their own boat.
The club also offers lessons on the theory of sailing with sessions at either 10am or 2pm on Saturday.
The club’s monthly race will also be held this Sunday afternoon, which looms as a perfect chance to try competitive sailing.
Contact Paul Hutchinson (0403 255 649) or Tom Mackerras (0429 643 422) to reserve a time, or turn up and see what’s available.
Canoeing is also an excellent way to wind down on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Alternatively, for those keen to stay out of the water, there will be a sausage sizzle for lunch and a barbecue dinner in the evening, with entertainment from a jazz band or a ukelele group.
The club will hold sailing events every Sunday afternoon for the next five months, and interested beginners are welcome at any time.
