About 20 Yenda residents spent the good part of Wednesday going on a wild dog chase throughout the streets, before finally managing to entice her over with a roast chicken.
Yenda resident Megan Gibbs took the dog back to Griffith Veterinary Hospital, where she got food, a bath, cuddles, and a name: Jackie.
Jackie's ticks were removed and over the next few days her shrunken stomach filled out and her tail began to wag once again.
Jackie was scared of humans at first, but she soon grew attached to the vet staff, who were smitten with her.
Needy Paws dog rescue and Griffith City Council will be looking after Jackie and have teamed up to make sure she can find a safe home with a loving family.
Griffith City Council ranger and acting compliance coordinator Michael Ryan said he was moved by the kindness shown to Jackie by the community.
"We at council want to commend these people who've gone way above and beyond for Jackie," Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan is trying to track down Jackie's original owner, but for the time being she will be living with Ken Rebetzke at Needy Paws.
Mr Rebetzke will be giving her all the love she needs until she finds her forever home, and in the meantime he is asking the community for donations to help pay for her upkeep.
Anyone wanting to donate can call Mr Rebetzke on 0422 351 015 for further details.
