It is those stories that Riverina photographer Karen Tuckwell has made her mission to capture.
The Mummy and Me Photography by Kaz owner said she had for years shared the connections between people through her art.
After winning an international photography award in a pet category three years ago, she said inspiration struck.
Her dream of capturing the connections between people and their furry friends will be a reality this year, as Ms Tuckwell pieces together a photo book of 101 dogs and their owners across the region.
“It’s fitting because it is the year of the dog,” Ms Tuckwell said. “But since I started, I’ve had all people calling me, wanting me to take a picture of them with all sorts of pets.”
She said when residents started arriving at the studio with cats, ferrets and even magpies, the single project became two.
“They’re all beautiful stories,” Ms Tuckwell said. “So the second photo book will be called Storytails.”
She said a percentage of the money raised would go towards a charity, yet to be chosen.
“As people share their stories with me I want them to tell me where they want the money to go,” Ms Tuckwell said. “If there’s a lot of animals adopted from the shelter, it might go there.”
