Riding for Disabled, Griffith Suicide Prevention and Support Group and Tilley Smith each received $1200 from the proceeds of their annual fundraiser.
Abruzzo Association’s Nigel Ippoliti said it was important the money stays in the MIA.
“We wanted to shine a light on these groups and everything they do. We want to keep the money in the Griffith community,” he said.
“The money will be put to good use all around.”
The annual fundraiser takes the form of a lunch each year where traditional Italian food is served.
Mr Ippoliti says the fundraiser helps put younger generations in touch with their heritage.
“It’s about getting the Italian community together every year. It gets the kids together with their grandparents and carrying on different traditions,” he said.
“The entire committee works so hard to put it all together. I can’t single anyone out, but they always work as hard as they can and put on a great lunch.”
Griffith Suicide Prevention’s Val Woodland said the funding came as a surprise
“The funding was a lovely surprise – but it was very welcome. It’s always good to be supported this time of year because it’s a vulnerable time for a lot of people,” she said.
The funding will go toward funding telephone accounts at the Griffith Suicide Prevention Crisis line.
“We would just encourage people if they’re feeling lonely or a little isolated at this time of year to take care of each other call our service.”
