The field was split into four bunches. The limit bunch included Jack Trimboli, Michael Wynne, Tom Graham, Danny Toaldo and Michael Andreazza, this group was handed a 16 minute 30 second handicap.
Second limit started 5 minutes 30 seconds later, comprising of Adriaan Shields, Paul Muir, Adrian Piccoli, Ros Nugan and Mark Palmer. Chopping Block set out 4 minutes 30 seconds in front of scratch and was made up of Jason Minato, Kingsley Massey, Peter Stockwell, Dick Hore and Bronwyn Jones. Scratch were in for a tough time with only Craig Tilston and Malcolm Blake in the group.
The limit group combined superbly and were immediately lapping under 20 minutes. Tom Graham and Danny Toaldo were providing some big wattage to the group. Michael Andreazza was coordinating the group’s effort and making sure that that smooth rotation kept the group at maximum speed.
The second group was flying and lapping under 18 minutes. Adrian Shields showed his bunch mates that he is improving rapidly and Mark Palmer with the benefit of some hard training was able to drive the pace of the group.
The five strong chopping block were flying and recording lap times in the mid 16 minutes. The two scratchmen were effectively doing a two man time trial, swapping off 3km turns.
Into the third lap the limit group started taking a hold on the race by dropping their lap time to 18 minutes 50 seconds. Sensing a potential victory Jack Trimboli chipped in with a couple of fast turns. Second Limit kept their steady pace into the third lap and whilst Chopping Block and Scratch were closing the gaps, the deficit was not coming down fast enough.
Coming into the fourth and final lap a most determined limit group, accelerated yet gain, recording their fastest lap of the day at 18 minutes 20 seconds. This was good enough to hold off the chasing bunches for the limit group to garner a great victory. Michael Andreazza started out the sprint however the fast men Jack Trimboli and Michael Wynne were on his wheel.
The power of Wynne was too much for Trimboli, with Wynne recording his first race win followed by Trimboli and Andreazza. Tom Graham and Danny Toaldo having done a lot of work through the race came in fourth and fifth respectively.
Second limit were in next with Adrian Piccoli taking the bunch sprint and sixth place. The scratch duo of Blake and Tilston shared fastest time in an excellent 1 hr 2 minutes and 20 sceonds.
