Bengali tigers, Bill Cosby, illegal water: this week 25 years ago in Griffith

A Bengali Tiger reading the local paper, illegal water connections and Bill Cosby’s fun new family show featured in The Area News this week a quarter of a century ago. 

But in a measure of how some things don’t change – the RSL’s Terry Walsh was profiled addressing the Remembrance Day service at Memorial Park, just as his did last Saturday

The rainy 1992 service paid an overdue tribute to Riverina Vietnam veterans. 

Robinson’s Circus’s Jerome Kirwan brought two ten month old Bengali Tigers to Griffith, one of which was photographed reading The Area News

In harder news, Griffith City Council announced a crackdown on houses connected illegally to the town’s water suppy, which was “believed to be costing ratepayers dearly”. 

Also, Bill Cosby’s new show You Bet Your Life, debuting in Griffith this week in 1992, was billed as “the most entertaining half hour show to watch this season”. 

Mr Cosby is no longer seen as a symbol of family values
