“I’ve never been to Griffith before, but I am certainly looking forward to it, it’s going to be a very interesting part of the tour.”
Richard says he is very excited to see what Griffith has to offer.
“I am very much looking forward to going to all the wineries, Griffith has some amazing vineyards, and visit as many as I can. I’m not a wine drinker, but I have a lot of interest in wines, I have some friends who invest in wine.”
Racey hit the jackpot with Lay Your Love On Me, a huge Christmas hit in the UK in 1978, which also reached No 1 in Australia.

- Singer Richard Gower
Three of Britain's highly-successful pop groups of the seventies will tour Australia together in November 2017 for the first time, and Richard is looking forward to performing with ‘The Rubettes’ featuring original member Alan Williams and Original 70’s group ‘Paper Lace’ feat Phil Wright.
“The thing is the artists, all their songs have been very successful, all number one’s, so it’s going to be a very good tour, and everybody is going to know the songs,” he said.
He said Griffith can expect a fun, happy concert with great songs in a very light-hearted atmosphere, with no messages and “no axes to grind.”
With all the pressure that was placed on the band in the 70’s, Richard said this tour was a chance to enjoy the experience.
“In the 70’s I think we were as young as pop stars are now, and there is immense pressure when you are successful ...But once you’ve had that success, the years roll on, you end up doing it because you want to do it and you love to do it.”
Richard says now he’s older and “more mature”, it makes touring easier and he performs better with no pressure.
“Looking back, if I could go back in time I would release Oh Kitty instead of Boy Oh Boy I would have done it the other way around, I would have released Kitty first, because Tony Basil went on to have a worldwide number one, so it’s probably the one thing I would change.”

His famous hit’s with Racey included Baby It’s You, Lay Your Love On Me, Some Girls and Boy Oh Boy.
“My favorite song would have to be ‘Some girls’, but also a little known song that I wrote years ago was a song called ‘shame’, which we are going to put in the show, its a real absolute rock and roll song.”
In a message to fans in Griffith, Richard said “I’d like all the fans in Griffith to come and have a good time, to sing and dance with us. With all the trouble in the world, just forget it all.”
The 70's HitMakers tour will be coming to Griffith’s Regional Theatre on Wednesday November 8.
