The MLHD took out a two page centrefold advertorial in Friday and Monday’s The Area News titled “The truth of it...” to inform you of the “ongoing improvements in services at the hospital over the past five years”.
The advertorial highlights all the positive aspects on the holiday under the headings “aspire to excellence”, “focus on wellness” and “invest in our people”.
Some of the features to look forward to when you use the hospital (highlighted in the advertorial) include:
- Maternity unit upgrade to modernise the unit with two refurbished birthing rooms.
- New medical equipment including a CT scanner and ultrasound machine being purchased.
- 24/7 blood testing so patients get the treatment they need when they need it.
- On-site team of 30-plus staff in pathology, including a pathologist, scientists, technical officers, collections and clerical staff.
The advertorial also highlights what will be upgraded as a result of the premier’s $35 million pledged funding of Griffith base hospital, including promises to:
- Refurbish and modernise medical and surgical impatient accommodation.
- Upgrade critical care services.
- Improve access and onsite parking.
Rally organiser Jenna Woodland is not convinced by NSW Health’s counter campaign, and sees the fight for improved regional health expanding beyond Griffith.
“Many people are calling me from surrounding towns telling me how sick they are of having to travel two hours for basic health services,” she said.
“I can see this becoming an Riverina-wide movement”.
The community is now urged to come to the Griffith Exies Club on Thursday August 17 at 8.45am with placards in a “peaceful protest” to show the Premier how serious the need is for regional and rural people to have the same standard of health care as those in the city.
