Heavy winter rain continued into spring in 2016, meaning organisers of the event were forced to cancel the much-loved weekend.
However, in a silver lining it did give those behind the event an extra 12 months to ensure the 2017 event would return bigger and better than ever.
The Barellan Good Old Days weekend is known for its many interesting demonstrations, activities and heavy horses across two days of going back in time.
Event publicity officer Carl Chirgwin said one of the highlights this year would be up to 26 Clydesdales in harness pulling a loaded wagon of wool.
“Renovations from various working bees have put a new slant on the Kentucky animal petting ring, the milking cow and butter churning demonstrations as well.
“We have Julie Lawrence and Jed Blair from Hay/Carrathool who will be singing under the stars Saturday night with a special song being penned in relation to our weekend while everyone is enjoying their campfire cooked dinner in.
“Once you pay at the gate all attractions and experiences are free for people to enjoy.”
As well as the event having plenty to see and do, the benefits for the Barellan community are also extensive.
“With up to five to 6000 people attending, the economic influx to the town is enormous,” Mr Chirgwin said.
“We only have locals doing the catering and beverages, all money raised is kept within the community.
“All the money that each business in town makes over the weekend is of complete bonus to them as it puts our little town with a big heart on the map for people to come back and enjoy in the future, especially with our tennis racquet icon on the Burley Griffin Way.”
The idea behind the weekend is for people to head along and see the pioneering days of Australian agriculture and the way people lived and farmed the land and their homesteads way back when.
Another added feature this year is a “tribute to the teams” where 11 teams of horses, Clydesdales, mules, donkeys, camels and goats are going to to be “driven” into Barellan from all over Australia and paraded down the main road and to the showgrounds.
The weekend will be held from September 29 to October 1.
