Over 80 per cent of respondents to an online poll by The Area News say they are not comfortable drinking tap water sourced from Lake Wyangan.
Depleted water reserves mean that our tap water is now being partially sourced from Lake Wyangan, despite the lake having an amber alert for the presence of blue-green algae.
The lake water is ‘shandied’ with better quality water and then treated, and Griffith City Council assure residents the water is rigorously tested and safe to drink.
Many residents however have expressed outraged at not being advised beforehand and allowed to make the choice whether to drink such water.
While council says the water may taste “slightly different”, over 60 per cent of respondents to another survey described the tap water as undrinkable; saying they either buy, boil or filter.
Almost 600 people have responded to our two surveys.
