Competitors came from the Canberra, Temora, Ardlethan, Hay, Victoria and around the Griffith area with two car loads of keen shooters travelling from Brisbane to compete.
The shoot consisted of 200 clay targets set on two separate sporting clay courses that were set up in the bush around the hilly escarpment at the Dave Wallace Range. Local members had set an excellent variety of different targets that challenged all the shooters.
The Griffith range is quite unique with clay targets thrown down, up and along the cliff faces as well as having competitors shoot from towers.
An excellent variety of simulated field targets coming from all directions in the bush required competitors to stay focused to post a credible score.
The home ground advantage held by local shooters and regular visitors who are used to these conditions showed in the final results. Three junior shooters, who have only been shooting for a short time Nicholas Brighenti, Harrison Lillis and Nicholas Pilioso excelled themselves and posted some excellent scores and provided some keen competition in this category.
The shoot received generous sponsorship from Casella Wines, Rod McNabb Caltex, Bronze Wing Ammunition, Riverina Hunting & Fishing, Liftek and many local businesses. Over $6,000 in cash and prizes were on offer to grade winners and overall winners.
Local shooter Shaun Krzus again demonstrated his superior skills with a shotgun emerging as the overall winner for the weekend with the top score of 162/200 targets.
Local shooter Bart Brighenti top scored on Saturday with 88/100 while Brisbane shooter David Lillis posted the best score on Sunday with 81/100. Brighenti and Lillis also were the only competitors who posted perfect rounds of 25 targets.
