The $200,000 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup will be in the town as part of its fifteenth annual tour of Australia and New Zealand
Whilst in West Wyalong, the Cup will engage in a number of activities including a community breakfast put on by the West Wyalong Rotary Club (Tickets $7) and a special street parade and Mayoral reception down Main Street featuring the Australian Army Band – Kapook.
Business House Fashions will then hosting a champagne lunch (Tickets $25), and to finish the night the West Wyalong Services & Citizens Club will be hosting a fashions on the field dinner (Tickets $25).
Ray Smith, General Manager, Bland Shire Council said the community is looking forward to coming together to celebrate the iconic trophy.
“It’s wonderful to see the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour returning to West Wyalong. We can proudly say that West Wyalong is the home to this year’s trophy.”
“The gold used to make the 2017 Emirates Melbourne Cup Trophy was mined at Evolution Cowal Gold mine in Bland Shire, West Wyalong. That will always give West Wyalong a special connection to the Cup.”
Two time Melbourne Cup winning jockey John Letts will also partake in the day’s activities.
John Letts won the 1972 and 1980 Melbourne Cups and holds the record for the number of Cup wins at an impressive 106.
West Wyalong is the first town on a 31 destination tour across regional NSW.
Since its inaugural year, the tour has travelled more than 494,000 kilometres and visited more than 377 regional, rural and metropolitan destinations.
