A man who had been living in the home on Parkinson Crescent told police he had left on foot at 7pm, but on returning half-an-hour later saw flames coming out of the lounge room windows.
Police and fire services were called to the blaze and spoke to the man who said no one had been inside the home at the time of the fire.
Police inquiries are continuing into the cause of the fire and detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have information.
The night then continued for fire fighters just after midnight on Monday morning when they were again called to a blaze, this time on Leonard Road at Hanwood.
Arriving on the scene fire fighters found an old farm house already well alight but managed to extinguish the blaze.
There were no signs of anyone having lived in the house, which is located in between vineyards, for a number of weeks.
