The high-scoring affair saw 75 points scored in the game and it was two short periods that let Griffith down.
After the teams returned from the break, Wagga City capitalised on Griffith’s slow start and scored a couple runaway tries.
The Blacks then hit back with Aistan Fidow swinging the momentum back in the home side’s favour.
Griffith led going into the final minutes of the match before late tries handed City the 41-34 win.
Blacks coach Jason Waring-Bryant said the two lapses in concentration by the Blacks cost them the win.
“I think it was just switching off for that five minutes at a time,” Waring-Bryant said.
“That’s when those guys put it on us and we need to try and get that out of our game.”
Despite the loss, Griffith’s young brigade continues to impress the coach.
"Again Ewan Morriss took it to another level yesterday,” Waring-Bryant said.
"I don’t know what he’s having for breakfast but whatever he’s having, he should keep having it.
“Aistan got one point for instigating the momentum shift and Billy Maiava got two points. Every time he got the ball, he made metres.”
The Blacks now sit in second last on the first grade ladder with four points after three rounds.
But with three teams all on 10 points, a win could bring Griffith right back to the pack.
