A second half blitz saw the Black and Whites take out the Joe Fabris Memorial Cup over fierce rivals the Griffith Waratah Tigers in a 50-24 drubbing.
Black and Whites co-coach Andrew Lavaka said the win came down to a more disciplined second half from his side.
“It was good to finally get the win. It wasn’t an easy one, it was tough,” Lavaka said.
“At stages, it could have went either way. We held the ball in the second half and scored some good points.”
The two Griffith sides now have one win each in 2017.
Lavaka said there was plenty to take from the game other than the competition points.
”Getting the two points is a big bonus but for me combinations coming together [was crucial],” Lavaka said.
“The brothers in the halves, George and Stephen [Broome], guided our forwards around and set it up for the backs to score the points.”
The Black and Whites had eight different try-scorers in the nine tries to four victory.
Moses Butukoro scored the sole double and Stephen Broome racked up a personal tally of 18 points.
Lavaka said every player played their part in the win.
For the Waratahs, Kose Lelei, Jai Lyons, Adam Twigg and Ben Vitucci scored tries.
