The Hay local has joined the Goolgowi community who, after losing one of its own to leukaemia last year, has rallied to raise money to help find a cure by hosting as a World’s Greatest Shave event, with Mr Jarrett agreeing to also sacrifice his head of hair if enough money is raised.
He won’t be alone in losing his locks, with a bushranger beard, and numerous heads of hair also on the chopping block – including that of 18-year-old Jack Star, who is raising money in memory of his cousin Kieran who passed away from the disease last August.
Mr Star said while it took a bit of convincing for him to agree to shave his head, having seen firsthand how devastating leukaemia could be he knew it was an important cause to get behind and encouraged others to dig deep in support.
“Leukaemia and blood cancers have such a huge affect on so many different families and all of this money is going towards a good cause,” he said. “Every step we take in fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation gets us one step closer to a cure, and that is so important.”
The World’s Greatest Shave in Goolgowi will start from 6pm at the Exies club with all encouraged to donate to the cause with both hair and money.
Hillston woman Joan Vagg is also donating all of the proceeds from an upcoming Good Friday art exhibition.
She’ll also have a book launch and auction at the Greengecko Garden Centre to the Leukaemia Foundation.
With free entry, wine and cheese all are welcome to join.
