The hall lost its last floorboard on Monday as builder Ross Davidson and his team together pulled it out in preparation to continue refurbishing the hall with a new floor.
“It has been a bigger job than expected,” Mr Davidson said. “The foundations were a bit unsteady.”
With the project forecast to be finished by the end of April organisers are already happy with the improvements undertaken, including new walls outside the bathrooms, architraves and a paint job.
“The progress at the moment is absolutely fantastic,” Councillor Christine Stead said.
“We have even had the walls insulated, which means no more pigeons.
“And now on top of that we have a $30,000 grant for electrical works in the hall.”
The money for electrical repairs was granted by the state government after the renovations identified the need for new electrical boards for safety.
Ms Stead was clear in her vision for the showground complex, working towards making the most of underutilised resources.
“This is about making the showgrounds into an asset for the community,” Councillor Christine Stead said.
“We want to be able to use this area as a sporting complex and a community hub not only for Griffith but also for the surrounding areas.”
