Leeton is the only team from the shire taking part in the knockout, but there are other Group 20 teams hitting the road for the annual hit out. 

The Greens will take on Gundagai under lights on Friday night at 8.20pm. 

Should they defeat the Tigers they will be bound for the first quarter-final on Saturday evening where they will play the winner of the Wagga Kangaroos and Woden game. 

Greens coach Brent Pike wasn’t too fussed on whether or not his team won during the knockout. 

“It’s always nice to win, but we just want to go, play footy and have a bit of fun,” he said. 

“We’re taking over a fairly young side, so it will be good for them to have a run around. 

“They are pretty keen and it gives us a good chance to have a look at where everyone is at.”

The Greens league tag side will also take part in the competition under new coach Jayke Stevenson. 

Their first match will be on Saturday at 11am against the Wagga Kangaroos. 

Pike said all grades had been enjoying a solid pre-season. 

“We’ve been getting some solid numbers at training,” he said. “It’s been a good start for everyone so far.”
