The Area News’ recent preview of Lee Kernaghan’s return to Griffith for the first time since the early 2000s had many local country music fans jumping for joy.
The potential trip for now Victorian Hayley Northill and her family back to her old stomping ground at Carathool suddenly became much more of a likely prospect with the news of Kernaghan’s return.
Not only to relive the memories as fans of the musician, but to reintroduce her daughter Catherine to the man who enriched her life as a toddler almost 20 years ago.
“It was at the Yoogali Club, and people were watching her dancing to the music,” Ms Northill said.
“Then he held up her painting she made for him – her favourite song was in that print.”
The Area News captured Kernaghan proudly showing off Catherine’s artwork, and the photo’s appearance in his return preview brought memories flooding back for Hayley.
“He used to camp at mum and dad’s farm at Carathool, so we knew him a bit,” Ms Northill said.
While there hasn’t been a commitment from Hayley for the return trip, she hopes her now 18-year-old daughter may get a chance to once again meet their idol and rekindle her love for his music.
