The claws are set to come out this Australia Day weekend as the Goolgowi Pub prepares to host the seasons most competitive yabby races all in aid of a good cause.

It is a ruthless sport but the rules of yabby racing are fairly simple.
The numbered yabbies are placed in a large circle and first out is the winner.
But while it sounds easy Publican Robert ‘Chief’ Moore has had to implement some pretty strict rules for racers on the day.
“Absolutely no doping,” he said on Wednesday as the pub prepared for the competition. “No steroids at all.”
Preparation for the day began weeks back with local yabby trainers and fierce competitors Harry Robertson and Alex Brown throwing out their nets early to catch a competitive crop. “The trick is to use Aldi dog meat, that catches the best yabbies,” Mr Robertson said.
Mr Robertson promised early birds out to the pub on Saturday his hot tips on the fastest yabbies up for auction.
The small community will host the races to rally behind local boy and war veteran Jack Barden, who is set to trek the length of Norway in April to change the veteran narrative and raise money for Team Rubicon Australia. Local band Crackerjack will play in the evening and football memorabilia and gift cards will be up for auction throughout the day, racing will start at 12pm.
