Just before 5.30pm, police and emergency services were called to the Goolgowi Public Swimming Pool following reports a four-year-old boy was found at the bottom of the pool.

A lifeguard at the pool performed CPR on the boy before local SES and NSW Ambulance Paramedics arrived and stabilised the child.

He was taken to Griffith Base Hospital in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

However, the incident could have turned out very differently, according to Inspector Nicholas Seddon from the Griffith Local Area Command. 

“Thanks to the quick actions and first-aid training of the lifeguard, there wasn’t another tragic drowning to add to the 17 deaths across the state over this holiday period,” he said.

“Adult supervision of children and learning first-aid are two of the best things to help avoid these tragedies.”
