“I thought getting to 158 was a pretty good effort,” he said.
He (Jones) did a great job for the team and put a really high price on his wicket.
- Leagues captain Paul Plummer
“The outfield was slow and the deck played pretty well.
“I thought our total was closer to 200 on the other fields and to then bowl them out for under a hundred was a good effort from all of us.”
The innings got off to a bit of a shaky start as Leagues lost Ben Leach (9), Liam Greenaway (0) and Reece Matheson (5) cheaply.
Andrew Madden (29) made the most of his opportunity and when Jones (26) came to the crease the innings had a more solid look to it.
Jones and Ryan Greenaway (10) put together a small partnership and when Plummer (36) joined Jones, the pair picked up the run-rate.
The captain was left impressed by the performance of Jones in his first grade debut.
“He batted well for his 26,” he said.
“He did a great job for the team and put a high price on his wicket.
“He showed a lot of energy with a lot of singles being scored.”
The wickets of Plummer and Jones did little to stop the scoring as Satvir Chahal and Raj Singh both scored 12 to lift the side to 9/158 before Plummer decided it was time to declare.
Yenda captain Brett Hazelman was the best of the bowlers picking up 3/52 of his 11 overs while Matthew Staines (2/33) and Andrew Potter (2/28) also chipped in.
Yenda looked good at the start with Potter (31) and Shaun Stubbs (20) combining after losing Simon Spiers (0) early.
However, Hazelman (21) was the only other Yenda batsman to make double figures with four of the last six batsmen getting out for ducks with Micheal Angel and Julian Khan making four each.
It was a tale of tight bowling from Leagues as none of the side’s bowlers had many runs scored off them.
Hardeep Singh made a huge difference as he went for less than two runs an over to end his day with figures of 2/12 off seven overs.
Liam Greenaway (2/29) and Raj Singh (2/12) were both able to assist the economical Hardeep, picking up two wickets apiece in the victory.
“Raj and Harry (Singh) did a great job with the ball for us again,” he said.
“Liam (Greenaway) bowled a pretty long spell as well and did quite well.”
Thanks to the tight bowling performance Leagues was able to secure a 63-run win.
