IT WAS a day for the batsmen in Saturday’s round of matches. The most impressive batting performance came from Watson with a massive 3-139 (average 46.3) to haul in Starc’s big score of 4-120 (average 30).

Watson’s runs were shared between Meli Ranitu, 24, Nate Sergi 23, and Connor Moore 22. Jackson Ross and Harry Morshead were Starc’s wicket takers. Starc’s innings was dominated by Matt Devery’s 32 runs with good support from Harry Morshead’s 22. Ranitu topped off a good day with two wickets for Watson.
Warner’s score of 5-92 (average 18.4) was just enough to squeeze in front of Lyon’s 4-65 (average 16.3). Owen Robinson’s hard hitting 25 and Matthew Adams’ 22 gave Warner a great start. Jayden Morrell was Lyon’s most successful bowler with a two wicket haul. Nick Codemo was the top run scorer for Lyon with 13 and Morrell supported him with an innings of 12 runs. Robinson and Jacob Serafin both captured two wickets for Warner.
In another tight finish Smith’s 3-60 (average 20) got them across the line against Johnson who made 4-75 (average 18.8). Liam James top scored for Smith with 14, Jordan Virago, 13 and Patrick Mickan 11. Johnson’s wicket takers were Seamus Maley, Angus Argent-Smith and Jordan Williams. Johnson’s turn at the crease benefited from an innings of 20 from Argent-Smith and a handy 15 from Maley. Mickan took the only wicket to fall to a Smith bowler.
Cummins and Clarke engaged in a tremendous tussle. Cummins’ batsmen hit up a handy 4-109 (average 26.75) which was almost matched by Clarke’s 5-123 (average 24.6). Christian Dall Est continued to impress with an innings of 37 for Cummins and was aided by Nick McGibbon who finished on 21.
Jai Kenny, Joseph Macri and Cooper Rand all picked up a wicket for Clarke. Cooper was impressive at bat, knocking up 40 for Clarke. Bede Kenny did his bit in scoring 24. Dall Est also performed with the ball snapping up two wickets.
