A YENDA community tradition will continue on Sunday with the 24th annual Yenda Community Carols by Candlelight.
Held right in the centre of town in the Yenda Memorial Park, a the community is expected to brave warm conditions to turn out for some Christmas cheer.
The evening will commence with a barbecue courtesy of Rotary Club of Yenda from 5.30pm and the Griffith City Band will then play from 6pm for about half an hour.
The night will feature uplifting, festive carols and Santa will arrive about 8pm.
Organising committee member Lucy DeRossi said everyone was invited invited to attend the event, particularly given there would be no community carols staged in Griffith this Christmas.
“The singers are not only from Yenda, they’re from Griffith as well and we have the Griffith City Band,” Lucy said.
“Most of the performers are young.
“The band starts at six and that’s when everyone starts turning up. We’ve got to get the kids organised and the performances start at 6.30-ish.”

The event won’t go too long into the night given the number of children in attendance, both as performers and in the audience.
“We don’t like to go too late because the families with small children like to leave early and the children do have to go to school the next day,” Lucy said.
“It is an evening of entertainment for the whole family.”
This year the event will be hosted for the first time by MC Natalie Trionfi.
“She’s a Yenda girl,” Lucy said.
“She sings. She’s going to do the introduction and sing a few songs.”
As well as the barbecue and entertainment, there will be ice creams, cold drinks and fairy floss for sale, and glow sticks and candles available for purchase to help set the mood.
Originally started by Bob and Sylvia Allen, who ran it for 21 years, Yenda Community Carols is now under the guidance of a small group of supporters, with the backing of the Rotary Club of Yenda.
However, the group of six that now co-ordinates the event is always looking for more help to organise the evening.
All money raised is returned into successive carols events and back into the wider community through Rotary, which also helps cover any costs.
The heat last year kept some people away, meaning numbers were down a little bit on the year before. However, the organisers were hopeful of another strong turnout in 2016.
“We don’t want to break any records, we only do it for the community,” Lucy said.
“Everyone can come along, sing a few carols and have a nice evening.”
