LINX National Logistics Manager Wayne Alpen said the company is committed to relocating from the Patrick Portlink site to the Western Riverina Intermodal Freight Terminal at Wumbulgal.
The move comes after years of lobbying from council and the state government, who want to see an end to trucks rumbling and trains shunting through Griffith's CBD.
“Earlier this year, Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli facilitated the Western Riverina Forum where we announced our intention to relocate from our existing rail site in the Griffith CBD to Wumbulgal,” Mr Alpen said.
“Our position on this relocation has remained consistent throughout the Asciano transaction process and we remain very much committed to the move.
“We expect the planning, design, approvals and capital investment estimates will be completed shortly.”
LINX said it is working closely with both state and local government to instigate the relocation and plans to submit a Development Application soon.
Despite concerns over dust and noise, LINX said it has always co-operated and complied with the stringent operating conditions around traffic, noise and dust.
“We appreciate the environment in which we operate and remain totally committed to our obligation to the community,” Mr Alpen said.
“[It is] to ensure we operate to a high standard in line with our heavy vehicle accreditation, regulatory requirements and community expectations,” Mr Alpen said.
“We also acknowledge the relationship we have with the residents near our existing rail terminal and appreciate their tolerance and acceptance of our operation.”
Linx Rail Operations Manager Jon Burns said work is underway to develop the LINX site at Wumbulgal and progress is being made with the purchase of new equipment.
“We are currently installing a new container lifter at the Wumbulgal main line loading facility,” he said.
