There will be no shortage of festivities in Griffith with thousand expected to attend the biggest celebration on the Hindu calendar at Westend Stadium on Saturday.
Griffith’s celebration will start with a prayer service at 5.15pm followed by a free meal, traditional Indian dances and a firecracker show.
Organiser Satish Patel hopes the day, which is important to Griffith’s large Indian population, will strengthen the community’s multicultural makeup.
“The main aim of Diwali is to celebrate harmony, peace and multiculturalism by integrating all cultures throughout the community,” Mr Patel said.
The festival also marks the new business year, celebrates the triumph of good over evil and light wiping away the darkness of the world.
Diwali is celebrated in October or November each year, depending on the cycle of the moon.
Money raised from sponsors will go to charity.
