The Diggers take on the Leagues Club Panthers on Saturday in the Griffith District Cricket Association first grade competition at Exies No. 2.
Whilst captain Pat Whittard said his side would be gunning for the Panthers, continuing their form was just as important.
“You always want to beat the premiers from last season,” Whittard said.
“In saying that, we just want to keep rolling along and keep putting in good performances.”
Leagues come into that match after securing its first win of the year against Coro last week.
In that match, opening bowler Harry Singh picked up a hat-trick on his way to 5-20 from his eight overs.
Whittard said coming up against a player who was in red-hot form doesn’t affect the way he plays against someone.
“Nah, I don’t think so, every week’s different,” Whittard said.
“You do always have to respect the good bowlers and good batters but at the end of the day you just have to play cricket on its merits.”
Whittard is yet to win a toss this season and knows exactly what he’ll be doing if he wins it.
“I’ll definitely bat first,” he said.
Whittard knew exactly what he’d do after his side played at Exies No. 2 in round one.
They took on the Cougars there as the Diggers successfully chased down Coro’s total.
Whittard expected the pitch to be no different to what he played on in round one.
“[I expect the pitch to be] very similar to round one, flat and hard with a quick outfield,” Whittard said.
“I’m expecting a lot of runs. Going off the last couple of rounds around 180-200 is a par score.”
Diggers welcome back Scott Smith this weekend and Jack Favell will drop out.
