THERE were quite a few different thoughts running through my head during the 10-hour drive from Port Augusta in South Australia, to Griffith in the heart of the New South Wales Riverina.

As was probably expected, many of them surrounded my new job, as editor at the Griffith, Leeton and Coleambally newspapers.
There were also questions about my destination, and the place I was about to call home.
From the short time I’ve been in the region, there’s already a few parallels I can draw with where I grew up, in the Riverland of SA.
Griffith seems like a multicultural city passionate about food and wine, with a deep devotion to the lifeblood of the region – the river.
But even with a rich landscape and history, it’s the people making a quality city.
If the people here are as passionate about their region as Riverlanders, I’m sure I’ll be happy to call the Riverina home. - Ben Jones
