On October 15 Griffith residents are being asked to help raise desperately needed money for Tilly Smith who broke her back diving into a pool in March, resulting in tetraplegia.
“The family need a new vehicle that is fully wheelchair modified and this is not subsidised, it is big money – we are looking at anywhere upwards of $80,000,” one organiser Nadine Little said.
“They are down to one wage, Fiona has had to be in Sydney since March – and Tilly will need a lot of extra machines, the house has to be modified and there are ongoing medical costs.”
Fellow organiser Tracey Joyce pointed out that the costs are on top of the family’s normal living costs saying that but for a twist of fate Tilly’s accident could have happened to anyone in the community.
“Griffith is so well known for its generosity, Fiona always supported people when they needed it the most so let’s not let them down,” she said.
