Heading into its second year, Futsal Riverina has registered more teams this season than it did in the inaugural year to take part in the junior and senior competitions.
Futsal Riverina’s Rocky Marando is glad to see more teams register because more teams means a more competitive competition.
However, the most exciting thing about the new season is the court the players will get to showcase their skills on.
Futsal Riverina is close to signing a lease for Griffith Post School Options’ (GPSO) soon-to-be-completed futsal court.
The lease will see Futsal Riverina move from Westend Stadium to GPSO’s international standard court.
“It’s going to improve it [the playing experience] immensely,” Marando said.
“First and foremost, it’s actual futsal flooring, compared to the basketball court surface [the teams played on last year].
“It really helps the kids with their soccer skills – whether they're outdoor or indoor players.
“It’s a very skill-dominated game. The ball bounces a lot less to outdoor soccer, it’s a more technical game.”

Marando along with his business partners have big plans for the court.
They hoped to hold futsal tournaments at the court as well as open it to the wider community.
“We want to hold private, group and team training, birthday parties and get different sports in here as well,” Marando said.
“Hopefully we will eventually meet all the requirements to host some state titles here and maybe even nationals in the future.”
The junior season is slated to start on October 8 with the senior season likely to start a week later.
Despite the seasons so close to starting, Marando said there’s still time for players to sign up.
“At the moment we're up to 38 registered teams – the numbers have gone up from last year and we are still calling on late registrations,” Marando said.
Players can register as a team or as individuals where they will be allocated to a team. Players have up until Monday, October 3 to register and can do so by visiting the Futsal Riverina Facebook page, website ww.futsalriverina.com.au/ or contacting Marando on 0457 585 228.
