Mr Shelton will be the keynote speaker at the fifth annual “I Choose Life” symposium, which will be held from 1pm to 5pm.
The Christian lobbyist has appeared on The Drum, Lateline, The Project, Q & A and in many national newspapers.
Mr Shelton is determined to preserve the definition of marriage in Australia and is very passionate when discussing the same-sex marriage debate. For Shelton, the issue comes down to the rights of children and whether, in his words, all kids have the right to a mum and dad wherever possible.
“No political party should legislate for a family structure that requires a child to miss out on a mother and a father,” he said.
The Safe Schools program is also expected to come up, which some people have claimed is about the promotion of homosexuality and diversity of gender.
Currently, individual schools choose whether they want to implement the safe schools program. Unfortunately, if we don’t speak up against it, the program may be compulsory and implemented into all schools by 2018.
The line-up of speakers at the symposium also includes Professor Bill Muehlenberg, a media commentator whose CultureWatch blog features Christian commentary on current affairs.
The prolific author and highly-sought media commentator has appeared on major television and radio news shows, current affairs shows and debate programs.
He is the author of In Defence of the Family; Strained Relations: The Challenge of Homosexuality, and several others.
Professor Muehlenbergs’ research and study have led him to many enlightening findings. He will share these at the symposium.
Wagga surgeon Dr James Masson will also be speaking. Dr Masson is a spokesman for the recently formed, but dynamic, Wagga Wagga Marriage Action Group, a branch of the Australian Family Association.
His focus is on promoting the “beauty of traditional marriage” and highlighting links between the Safe Schools program and the potential legalisation of same-sex marriage.
Father Stephen Onyekwere, an assistant priest from Albury who initiated the symposium five years ago, will present a Christian response to attacks on marriage, family and raising children in the current social climate and combine with the other guest speakers on a question and answer panel.
With the federal election finished, people are looking forward to a plebiscite which will gauge the opinion of all Australians about changing the definition of marriage.
“I Choose Life” seeks to inform the community of the potential ramifications of the marriage equality and safe schools issues so people can make informed decisions.
The organisers of the event said everyone was welcome to attend the free event.
