“I arrived here from Sydney on Anzac Day in 1975 and I thought this was the prettiest place I had ever seen,” Mrs Stevens said. “I came here after 13 wet weekends and I thought it was so beautiful.”
Mrs Stevens will turn 100 on August 27. She said she was thrilled to share her birth year with her home. “I’m very happy about it to think that I am here to see something like this I am just so lucky,” she said. “There has been a tremendous amount of change over the years and there is change going on all the time.”
Change was also noted by 91-year-old Norma Carter, who was born here. “It’s amazing the amount our town has grown, when I drive around it’s hard to believe all the housing and buildings and development,” she said.
“I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. My husband and I lived in Papua New Guniea for a time and I only ever wanted to come back to Griffith, I just love this place.”
