With only two years experience, Halden showed he has class in the making as he took it to local favourite Kirri Ruston.
A beautifully timed left hook in the second round by Halden saw the referee put an eight-count on the local.
The visitor continued on and connected with some nice clean shots yet narrowly missed out with a split decision going the way of Ruston.
Halden’s coach Mario Rizzeri said a split decision loss to a hometown fighter was as good as a win in his books.
“It was a valuable experience as Greg presses forward and explores how far he can go in the sweet science of boxing. It would have been nice to bring the belt to NSW and as disappointing as it was, we have no regrets,” he said.
“Everybody there was hospitable and the promotion was very well run.”
Halden has had a busy year so far with six fights to his name in 2016 against some state and former national champions.
He matched it with his opponents and in doing so claimed his third state title in Sydney five weeks ago.
Halden now turns his focus and his training to the prestigious Golden Gloves Championships.
