“I didn’t really like country music to begin with, but Griffith had been good to me when I moved here and so when Ron Pattinson suggested to me that we put something on for country music artists I wanted to get involved,” Mr Jones said.

Now, as the muster nears its 10^th birthday celebrations, Mr Jones has a healthy appreciation for music of all kinds and Griffith charities have enjoyed the benefits.

“What we did in the beginning was we organised artists to play on Sunday afternoons every second month on the last Sunday of the month at the Coro club to raise money for various charities in the Griffith community,” Mr Jones said.

“We wanted to get some country music back into the our community because there’s nothing really here for country music, for artists or fans, so that is what it was all about.”

The club will celebrate its decade of country entertainment at the Coro Club on Sunday, July 21 from 1pm to 5pm.

“As it’s our 10^th birthday we really want to make it a big one,” Mr Jones said, encouraging residents to attend. 

“We’ve got about six or seven thousand to donate to local charities and the more people who come on the day the more money we can keep raising for those charities.

“We will have The Hoffmans playing which will be a really good show, they are not just singers, they are entertainers.”

Mr Jones said at the beginning he and Mr Pattinson had never dreamed they would still be putting on the event 10 years later.

“I definitely didn’t think we would still be running after this long,” he said. “We had a lot of help from Shawn Mealing who was the manager at the Coro club at the time and he made it all possible.

“Over the years we have had a lot of local artists and a lot of really good Australian artists perform over the years. We’ve even had the Japanese cowboy from America Hank Sasaki from Memphis Tennessee perform.

“It has been a massive amount of work, but now we have a really good committee and Ron and I are not doing everything oursleves like we used to, which takes a lot of pressure off.”
