After falling behind 2-0 at the half-time break, a rejuvenated City came out fighting in the second half to secure a 3-3 draw with West Griffith.
City came into the match in good form, coming off the back of its first win of the season last round against Yoogali FC.
It was Wests who started off like the team in form though, as a rock solid defence laid the platform up front.
Despite the wet conditions, they were able to move the ball around on the deck with ease.
Wests created a few chances up front but some handy goalkeeping from City’s Daniel Lico kept them scoreless.
That was until Ben Sanchez struck gold.
A lovely cross-field ball left him with just Lico to beat and despite the tough angle, he slotted it home nicely.
They used the wings well as they had done all season.
This pressure was enough for Wests to soon double their lead.
A wonderstike from Daniel Febo left the home crowd in awe as the goalkeeper had no chance of saving it.
With the score now at 2-0, things got a little harder for Wests as workhorse Ian Blake was taken from the field with an apparent jaw injury.
City weren’t done with yet though.
Robson Santinho started to assert his dominance in the midfield with some running football.
City kept the pressure on but couldn’t do enough to crack the back of the net before half-time.
Coming out of the sheds, City looked to turn things around.
Tom Harvey and Michael Barber grew consistently tougher for Wests defenders as the pair utilised their pace off the ball.
This effort up front resulted in goals for both.
It was the last 30 minutes of the game that had the home crowd cheering as seemingly out of nowhere the scores were level.
Neither team could break the deadlock as the teams each took a point away for their efforts.
In other GDFA news, the game featuring Hanwood and Yoogali FC - which was due to be played on Sunday – was postponed until Tuesday night due to a lack of player availability from YFC.
