A MAN who assaulted another man in his own home with a home-made medieval weapon was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on Wednesday, May 18.

50-year-old Lee Roy Povey of Coolah Street, Griffith was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence after he and the victim were involved in a struggle on September 23, 2015.
Povey and the victim had been drinking together on the afternoon of the assault before returning to the victim’s home on Wakaden Street.
The accused said he had believed the victim intended to assault him and that they became involved in a struggle. Povey punched the victim and kicked him a number of times causing the victim’s mouth to bleed and his tooth to go through his lip. While the victim was lying on the ground Povey then urinated on him.
Povey was also charged with stealing a St George keycard, Samsung mobile phone, German-style jacket and $100 worth of meat from the victim’s freezer following the assault.
