Jan Newman lost her battle with cancer on Monday night.
Sadly, she will miss the opportunity to co-host the city’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea next Friday.
Jan previously worked at The Area News in the company’s old building.
Everyone who knew her said she was always smiling despite her lengthy battle with cancer.
She was selfess and would do anything for anyone.
Jan was involved in a number of community organisations and her loss has sent ripple affects across the whole district.
Residents have been encouraged to attend the city’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea next Friday to pay tribute to Jan.
It’s also a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the Cancer Council.
Cancer is a disease that does not discriminte.
Most people have been personally touched by it in some way and this is a chance to help in the search for a cure or better treatment options for sufferers.
Another former staff member of The Area News Trevor “Tubby” Ryan also died after a long battle with illness on the weekend.
The thoughts of all staff at The Area News are with the family and friends of these two community members.
Rest in peace.
