“We are flat out at the moment,” Mr Farnell said.

“But it is great we have so many projects coming that will benefit the local community.”

The council has engaged contractors to begin work in the next month on a dog park in the community gardens.

The park will be a fenced in area with room for owners and pets to exercise in safety.

Mr Farnell said the park was a new feature for the Griffith community and his team were feeling their way with design and ideas.

“The community has been after this for a number of years,” he said. “We really want to put it somewhere central with lots of public amenities and the schools are happy with the location, especially Kalinda as they have their own dog who will be able to use the facility.”

Council is also discussing a future development in McKirdy Park on Wakaden street.

“This is a really multicultural area with no real park facilities,” Mr Farnell said.

“We are hoping to put in a volleyball court, ping-pong table, barbecue and water facilities and picnic shades.

“It will be simple but the community are excited to get anything there and we want to encourage a more active lifestyle.”

Mr Farnell also advised The Area News the Kathleen Aiton Memorial makeover should be completed in the next couple of weeks.

“We had a limited budget here, but we knew the community wanted us to get on this,” he said. With the Griffith CBD Strategy and the works depot going ahead the council are also rolling out the new pound facility which Mr Farnell believes will be a significant building for the community.

“We have some great projects on the horizon, 2016 is looking to be a busy year.”

The council has a $10 million vision to transform the city. The draft proposal includes more pedestrian crossings along Yambil Street, Kookora Street, Railway Street and Benerembah Street, more car parks away from Banna Avenue and the transformation of Kooyoo Street as a shared market street.
