Griffith City Council’s road safety officer Greg Balind said there would be a great number of multi-combination vehicles and agricultural machinery travelling across the district over the next few months. “The grain harvest is now in full swing and from all accounts the district will see its biggest season in the last few years so I appeal to everyone to exercise caution when sharing the road with agricultural related vehicles,” Mr Balind said.
“Due to their size and weight, heavy vehicles require more room on our roads – all drivers need to allow for trucks’ longer breaking distances, and width when negotiating corners, roundabouts and narrow roads.”
Chair of council’s transport committee Councillor Simon Croce said it was a busy time on the roads. “The pending grain harvest will be closely followed by the grape harvest, which rolls into the rice harvest after which the cotton harvest commences, therefore heavy vehicles and agricultural machinery will be a common sight on our roads well into the first half of 2016 so I ask all drivers to be patient and take care so our roads remain safe.”
