Grooveyard’s unique sound is created by a collection of instruments played by Phillip Stone (electric and acoustic guitars and ukulele), Carolyn ‘Caz; Higgs (electric bass, U bass, percussion and vocals), Graeme Cook (Hammond organ, accordian, trumpet and trombone) and Kevin McGrath on drums.
All four pack a powerful punch as vocalists.
Caz Higgs said when the band starts to play there is synergy.
“It’s as though the stars align and everything comes together in a grooveyard,” she said.
“Hence we use the name, Grooveyard, as a colloquialism for record shop.”
Caz said there was nothing more energising to a band than seeing people move and groove to your tunes.
“You know when people start to dance that it’s resonating with them,” she said.
“And it doesn’t matter if they don’t know the song because it’s a feeling and an energy coming off the band. Like pebbles on a pond, it ripples out and has an affect.”
Stone has 40 years experience as a professional musician and has performed around the world.
Carolyn has a background in live music and theatre production.
Kevin McGrath has played drums with rock and corporate bands in Albury and Melbourne. He was also a member of Expresso Bongo.
Graeme Cook is musical director of JAZZ Albury Wodonga at the JAZZ basement in Wodonga and has hosted national and international jazz artists at the venue since 2004.
First Friday founder Livio Mazzon said the band fearlessly stretched and massaged arrangements on the fly.
He said they were versatile and able to play as an electric band or an accoustic quartet. “All this makes for a night with Grooveyard that should not be missed,” Livio said.
The band will perform at Giuseppe’s Restaurant & Bar on Friday, December 4 as part of First Friday Live.
It will kick off at 6.30pm.
A $35 ticket covers entry plus a buffet with three types of pasta, three types of pizza, calamari and salad.
There will be regular lucky door prizes and raffles.
