"Griffith Naked Selfies" was created at 8pm on Tuesday and already had more than 1400 "likes" by yesterday afternoon.
It encouraged locals to take photographs of themselves naked, with their faces hidden, and email them to a private address, to be posted anonymously.
While members of the site had mixed reactions, with one calling the creator a "scumbag" and another labelling the concept "sick and twisted", a number of women have already contributed photos to the page, some with faces visible.
Local IT specialist Anthony Salmon said he was "disgusted" by the concept, and reminded followers of the site that the sordid images would remain in cyberspace forever.
He said, despite the anonymous nature of some of the images, there was potential for members' comments to allude to or reveal participants' identities.
"At lot of employers check social media before they employ staff, so anything you put up on the web could really come back to bite you," Mr Salmon said.
"Whether you're putting a photo of yourself up or posting derogatory comments about someone else's photo, it could case harm down the track.
"It's not like the old days where you wrote someone a letter saying you didn't like them or you took a photo on 35mm film that you could just tear up. This stuff is permanent and it really sticks."
The Facebook page is not the first of its kind - a similar American site was banished by social media moderators earlier this year.
It follows a series of distasteful pages that hit Griffith last year, including a "Gossip Girl" site where local high school students discussed rumours and belittled their classmates.
Some members of the new site were appalled by the concept and openly criticised its tawdry intentions.
"Wow, whoever made up this page must have no life," one comment read.
"It's not only bad, it's sick and twisted.
"I feel sorry for whoever made this page because you must of (sic) been slung, kicked and dropped on your head a couple times at birth."
Other members put their feelings much more simply, with one saying, "This is an ugly page - period."
Some fear the page may prompt jilted ex-lovers to send in photos of their former partners.
The Area News spoke to several locals who had become members of the page but all said they had only joined it because their friends had done so.
None intended to post photos of themselves.
