POLICE searched nearly a kilometre of the ‘8 Mile” channel between Leeton and Wamoon in relation to Strike Force Gundabri, the taskforce set up to investigate Stephanie Scott’s murder.
A number of officers attached to the Operations Support Group were deployed to search the drain while it was emptied.
They were seen wading through the irrigation channel, thigh-high in mud with shovels, rakes and sticks conducting a line-search.
Inspector Tony Reneker from Griffith Local Area Command confirmed the search was part of Strike Force Gundabri’s ongoing investigations.
However, he said it was part of a routine search.
“There are no new developments, no new information,” Inspector Reneker said.
When asked if it was unusual for such a large scale search to be conducted without any new information, he replied it was simply so they could be certain the area had been properly searched.
Nothing was located.
