Chair of the Griffith 2016 Centenary Celebrations Committee, councillor John Dal Broi, said the website will be the key conduit to communicate all things Centenary and keep the community informed of the activities planned for the coming year.
“Created in-house by our corporate communications officer Naomi Brugger, the website features a brief history of Griffith, historical photo gallery, historical timeline, the latest news, draft program and stories from locals,” he said.
“The site is all about celebrating Griffith, telling the story of how we got to where we are today and also presents an opportunity for residents, both past and present, to share their stories.”
The centenary committee have worked on a draft program for 2016 which includes the International Sculpture Symposium, raising of the time capsule, Centenary dinner and street party.
Cr Dal Broi said that people should have a look around the website and feel free to share any feedback they had.
“I would like to encourage everyone to get involved in celebrating our Centenary,” he said.
“A good starting point is the website.
“Jump online, take a look and we welcome you to submit feedback, ideas, stories, photographs and videos.
“The centenary is a celebration of the city, but also those who helped create the wonderful place it is today.
“We want to share those stories and memories.”
Councillor Anne Napoli said the website would be a good way to look back on the city’s history.
“It will be fantastic t to get the message out there to the community because it is a celebration of what the city has achieved over the 100 years,” she said.
She said she is looking forward to one aspect of the website in particular.
“The historic photos are quite touching as they represent what we are today and what we once were,” she said.
