The local winery was certainly no stranger to awards, but the recent wins were the biggest haul they had pulled so far.
The highly regarded 3 Bridges Durif collected another gold medal for the current release 2013 vintage, adding to the 2015 Mundus Vini Wine Competition win in Germany.
The 3 Bridges Botrytis Semillon, Calabria Bros. Shiraz, Calabria Vermentino, Montepulciano, Cool Climate Tempranillo and Nine Stones Barossa Valley Shiraz were all awarded the prestigious gold medals as well.
Sales and marketing manager, Andrew Calabria, was thrilled with the international results.
“The backbone of our success is built around our continuous passion to drive our quality and innovation across our wine portfolio,” Mr Calabria said.
“This win is a true reflection of the talents of our team and also the strength of Australia’s wine regions.”
General manager Michael Calabria shared Andrew’s sentiments.
“We are thrilled that our wines have been recognised on the international stage as one of the best,” he said.
All of Calabria’s wines are made by Bill Calabria, Tony Steffania, Emma Norbiato and Jeremy Nascimben, who said they work together closely as a team.
“It’s the four of us making every wine, it’s a collaborative effort,” Mr Nascimben said. “It’s great to see the alternative varieties so successful.”
While there may be consensus on how to make each wine, opinions were divided over which bottle they’d most like to take home.
While Mr Nascimben spoke highly of the Botrytis Semillon, Mr Steffania was a big fan of the Vermentino. Ms Norbiato, meanwhile, said her favourite was the Cool Climate Tempranillo.
The 2012 and 2009 Durifs had previously won awards as well, fulfilling Bill’s aim to create a quality Durif wine from the Riverina.
The Calabria 3 Bridges Durif has built a reputation as one of Australia’s most unique full-bodied wines.
The San Francisco International Wine Competition is the largest, most influential international wine competition in America, and is judged by a prestigious panel of nationally recognized wine experts. More than 4500 wines were entered from 31 countries, with judging being based on a blind, consensual procedure, ensuring competitive integrity as it remains the nation’s most respected wine competition.
