A hundred competitors congregated at Westend Sports Stadium for the first RMA tournament to be held at the venue.
The day started with kata and was followed by non-contact fighting before two students from PCYC Power Karate Griffith demonstrated a full-contact fight.
RMA is starting to introduce full-contact fighting for juniors. and the demo gave students a chance to see what it looked like at that level.
RMA and Total Fitness owner Frank Cirillo hailed the day a success, with every fighter learning something.
“To get 100 students on Mother’s Day was an incredible number,” Cirillo said.
“We can only imagine what the numbers would have been on a free weekend.
“RMA runs two inter-clubs a year so that students can get tournament experience on a local level before they try their hand at state and national level.
“There is so much talent that hasn't been realised on a competition level, and it was quite evident that we have many up and coming future state, national and possible world cup champions.”
RMA will host competitors from across Australia when they hold the Riverina Country Championships on October 4.
