The Cougars saw their hopes of finishing in the top two all but disappear when their match against Exies was washed out in the first innings last week.

The wet weather’s intervention was especially frustrating for the Cougars given they had the reigning two-day premiers reeling at 6-54.

But Pascoe said it would do his team little good to carry that disappointment into Saturday’s clash against the Yenda Jets at Wade Park.

“It was definitely disappointing getting the washout with the position we were in,” he said. 

“It’s tough when everyone else finishes games and we’re not getting any points.

“It happened to us a few years ago as well.

“It’s hard when it happens, but we’ll just keep going.

“We’re playing good cricket. That’s the main thing for us.”

One of the most pleasing aspects of last week’s performance for Pasoce was his players’ efforts in the field.

Most of the GDCA first grade captains have expressed concerns about their sides’ catching during the summer, but Pascoe said the Cougars didn’t squander any opportunities against Exies.

“We didn't drop any catches and didn't even look like we would, which was pretty good considering how wet it was,” he said.

“Hopefully, we can carry that into this week.”

The Jets have a reputation of being tough to beat at Wade Park and are fresh off a convincing victory over the struggling Diggers.

But while respectful of the Jets’ talents, Pascoe said the Cougars were confident of beating the home team.

“They (the Jets) have got some good players, but we’ve got plenty of confidence in the way we’re playing at the moment,” he said.

“We haven’t had too many changes (to the team) this year, which is good.

“It makes a bit of a difference. Not only are we playing good cricket, but we’re bonding as well, so we want to play well for each other.”
