Paul Snaidero has labelled the move as irresponsible.
“The purchase of the Clock restaurant is the result of having a mayor elected based on popularity with no annual accountability to the councillors or community,” Mr Snaidero said.
“The mayor’s sole purpose is being popular for re-election.”
Mr Snaidero said Mayor John Dal Broi indicated he was only interested in one term as mayor.
He said Councillor Dal Broi told residents he was seeking re-election to “sort out the mess Griffith City Council is in”.
Mr Snaidero said he did not believe that had been achieved.
He said he was interested in whether the CBD strategy would involve the purchase of more land.
“What fund was raided to come up with the cash to fund the purchase,” Mr Snaidero asked.
Mr Snaidero said he hoped the purchase would not result in an increase in rates.
