That’s the only way Coolibah Cafe owner Gordon Beaumont could describe what happened when a man had a massive heart attack in his Darlington Point shop last Friday.
“A man, who is a regular, came into the shop on his way to the zoo (Altina Wildlife Park),” Mr Beaumont said.
“Luckily he got talking to a guy from West Wyalong about the zoo because he had a massive heart attack. There was no warning – I just heard him hit the floor.”
The other customer quickly started CPR and Mr Beaumont called an ambulance.
“I’d like to thank the two boys from Essential Energy who came into the shop and helped,” Mr Beaumont said.
Mr Beaumont’s wife, Christine, also performed CPR on the man until the ambulance arrived.
“When he hit the deck, he was stiff and blue. I didn’t think he was going to make it. He was in a pretty bad way even when the ambulance got here – they used a defibrillator to get him going. They did a fantastic job.”
Mr Beaumont said the man would not have made it without the quick actions of the customers.
“I’d like to thank everyone who was here to help,” he said.
“Everyone should learn CPR, you never know when something like this is going to happen. Luckily God was batting for him, because five minutes either way he could have been on the way from Griffith or on the way to the zoo.”
Mr Beaumont said the man had called from hospital to thank Christine.
